Committed to the Carolinas

About Our Centennial

On December 11, 1924, James B. Duke signed his Indenture of Trust, the legal document creating The Duke Endowment and launching its philanthropic journey to improve lives in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Throughout 2024, the Endowment will explore the legacy and impact of the work our grantees do each day to nurture children, promote health, educate minds and enrich spirits. We will share insights from a century of grantmaking and highlight future opportunities as we celebrate the good work these grantees do in communities across the Carolinas.

This is a collective journey, one made possible by the diverse people and organizations with whom we collaborate.

We will be adding new grantee stories throughout the year, so please check back often. Join us as we spotlight a legacy of commitment and progress that will help inform our next century of work together.
