E. Craig Wall, Jr.
- Trustee, 1994–1997
Mr. Wall earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Davidson College in 1959 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1962. Afterward, he returned to Conway, S.C., to work at Canal Industries, a company his father founded in 1935. Mr. Wall was named President and CEO in 1969 and became one of the most respected and successful business leaders in South Carolina. At one time, he was involved with 40 boards, forums, task forces and councils. Charles C. Coker, Chairman of Sunoco, said Mr. Craig – who served on Sunoco’s board – was always “interested in how the decisions would affect the people.” He received honorary degrees from Coastal Carolina College and Coker College in 1989. The S.C. Chamber of Commerce honored him as its Businessman of the Year in 1988. Mr. Wall was a quiet, unassuming and private man. He was an avid sports fan and loved to fish and hunt. He served on the Board of Trustees of The Duke Endowment from 1994 until his death in 1997.
