Eugene W. Cochrane, Jr.

Mr. Cochrane worked as a hospital administrator for eight years before joining the Endowment in 1980 as a Program Officer in Health Care. He served as Director of Health Care before he was named Executive Vice President of the Endowment. Mr. Cochrane has served as a member of the Kate B. Reynolds Trustee Advisory Committee and a board member and Interim President and CEO of the Council on Foundations. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the South Carolina Hospital Association in 1999 and the Meritorious Service Award from the North Carolina Hospital Association in 2000.

Major Endowment Milestones:

  • Encouraged collaboration across the Endowment’s four program areas on major initiatives
  • Fostered relationships with peer foundations to create opportunities for partnership in the Carolinas and beyond
  • Laid the groundwork for strategic grantmaking and led an effort to integrate evaluation into all aspects of the Endowment’s work
  • Oversaw the Endowment’s move to its standalone headquarters in Charlotte
