
Jonathan Cox
- Trustee, Original Trustee, 1926–1932
Mr. Cox was born in 1856 in Rich Square, N.C. He graduated from the New Garden Boarding School (now Guilford College), where he was a schoolmate of James B. Duke and Benjamin N. Duke. He was President of High Point Savings & Trust Co. and President of First National Bank of High Point and Director of several other banking institutions, as well as Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Co. of Greensboro. He was prominent in political activities of North Carolina, running for Governor in 1908 and serving on the N.C. State Highway Commission. In 1917, he served on the Executive Council of the National Bankers Association. He was a Trustee of George Peabody College for Teachers and Chairman of the Board of Guilford College and High Point public schools. Mr. Cox served as a Trustee of The Duke Endowment from 1926 until his death in 1932.
