Richard B. Henney

Mr. Henney joined the Endowment in 1953 and served as Assistant Treasurer, Treasurer and Secretary before becoming a Trustee. He was the first person to assume the role of Executive Director, a newly created position designed to reduce the administrative burden of the Endowment’s chairman. Mr. Henney received an MBA from Hofstra College and an honorary Doctor of Laws from Duke University. He was a Trustee of the Y.W.C.A. Retirement Fund and a member of the New York Society of Securities Analysts. He also served on the board of Duke Power Company.

Major Endowment Milestones:

  • Merged New York and Charlotte offices
  • Created an “on-the-job” training program for administrators of small and midsized hospitals
  • Supported development of patient education materials for North Carolina hospitals
  • Assisted in adoption of a “parish” approach to coordinate efforts of individual rural churches
