Walker P. Inman

Mr. Inman was the son of Nanaline Holt Inman Duke and stepson of James B. Duke. He was 17 years older than his half-sister, Doris Duke. He was a business executive and Trustee of The Duke Endowment and of Duke University. He played an important role in the development of the Duke University Hospital and School of Medicine. Mr. Inman was an aviation enthusiast who flew his own plane, and he was among a group of men credited with sending the first short-wave transatlantic broadcast in 1921. He served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He was a member of the Carolina Plantation Society, the Winyah Indigo Society and the Georgetown (S.C.) Country Club.
