Mr. McGuire graduated from Davidson College in 1930 and received law degrees from Pfeiffer College and Duke University. He worked in the legal department of Duke Power Company and was named President in 1959. He spent his entire career with the power company and helped build it into a major energy company. He was elected a Trustee of The Duke Endowment in 1965. In a resolution honoring Mr. McGuire upon his retirement from The Duke Endowment, the Trustees stated, “He has been a steadfast guide and an unflinching proponent of doing what is right, just, and good.” Not long before his 100th birthday, he attended his grandson’s graduation from Davidson College, 80 years after his own graduation.
