
William S. Robinson, Jr.
- Trustee, 1932–1967
Mr. Robinson, an attorney, was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1908 after studying in the law schools of the University of North Carolina and Columbia University in New York. He joined Duke Power Co.’s legal department in 1913, and rose to Board Chairman in 1957. He was known at Duke Power as a forceful, articulate leader, skilled in the legal profession. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of The Duke Endowment in 1932 and was named to the Endowment’s Committee on Hospitals and Child Care, where he served for almost 35 years. At Mr. Robinson’s death, Marshall I. Pickens, Vice Chairman of the Endowment’s Board of Trustees, said: “We have lost a dear and delightful friend, a wise associate, and an effective advocate who was deeply concerned with the causes for which The Duke Endowment was created.”
